12-16 January 2026, CopenhageN, DENMARK
We are pleased to invite you to the 10th International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology, scheduled to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark from January 12-16, 2026.
This meeting will build upon the success of the previous nine editions of the conference series. Our goal is to bring together global researchers to explore various aspects of microbial diversity, function, and activity of cold-adapted microorganisms in polar and alpine environments. The conference will provide a platform for discussing the latest developments in the field, fostering the exchange of ideas and experiences on an international scale.
The current draft programme:
- Monday: Microbial diversity and biogeography in cryospheric* environments
- Tuesday: Biogeochemical processes in cryospheric ecosystems: integrating microbiology and environmental chemistry. Launch of the Glacial Biome Center.
- Wednesday: Social activities and networking (e.g., Museums, castles, Roskilde Cathedral, etc). Evening dinner with a Brazilian party
- Thursday: Mechanisms of microbial adaptation and survival in the cryosphere, microbial functionality and metabolism in extreme in sub-zero temperatures, Astrobiology
- Friday: Eukaryotic microbial diversity (e.g., algae and fungi), Viruses in polar and alpine environments, Microbial communities and global change, Biotechnology of cryospheric microorganisms
* By cryospheric, we mean permafrost, glaciers, ice sheets and their downstream habitats, sea ice, polar oceans, extra-terrestrial icy bodies
We look forward to welcoming you to Copenhagen in January 2026.
