Within ICEBIO, associated partner EPFL will provide training in glacier-fed stream biofilm ecology and biogeochemistry, ecosystem services; DNA and RNA extraction from complex mineral matrices; bioinformatics and advanced data analysis; expedition planning including local population and outreach. One doctoral candidate will be hosted at EPFL but funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). ClearWater Sensors ClearWater Sensors (CLEARWATER) is a specialist in developing precision submersible chemical sensors for scientific, industrial, and environmental monitoring applications. CLEARWATER will provide training to all of the researchers, introducing them to: a) innovation pathways from academia to SMEs (e.g., partnerships, licenses, joint ventures, spinouts, start-ups), b) IP (intellectual property) protection, management and exploitation and c) microfluidic reagentbased analyser technology and its use for in situ data collection in the cryosphere and hydrosphere. CLEARWATER will also provide secondment opportunities for two researchers in ICEBIO and share knowledge on the use of water sensors in other PhD projects. CLEARWATER will lead the network-wide training in careers and the preparation of researchers for non-academic pathways in business and consultancy.
